Hey! I’m an
user people interface
& user people Experience
designer
My name’s Nora, btw. Nice to meet you.
I’m focused in designing interfaces and experiences that embrace ethical, cultural, environmental, and human values.
How does
this work
In practice?
There are many ways of creating digital products that don’t treat people as mere numbers. The following are the current main points for me.
Carbon footprint
Half of the weight of an average website comes from images, videos, and fonts. If a designer can’t do something about it, who can?
Data collection
Design in the service of collecting unnecessary data or done in a non-transparent manner is not my cup of tea.
Deceptive patterns
Everyone denies using them but they are everywhere. I know what cognitive biases are and I know how to use them for good.
accessibility
The least you can ask of a designer is to match colors to have good text contrast and to put the font size over 16px. And from here, onwards.
conscious content
As there’s no design without content, my work can’t be responsible if words, media, and data are not consciously chosen.
Open Source
Responsibility is a community thing, so the first step is to get involved on it. Open source projects are a great way to do so.
How can this be applied to your project?
Before investing in design, you may want to understand how this approach would affect your project or how far it currently is from it.
In this case, I can offer you consulting sessions or an audit of your project.
And…
What does
this look like?
Oh, yes, the portfolio thing. Tbh I still have a lot of work to do but, meanwhile, these are some of my favorite works.
Some
thoughts on responsibility
Nobody has ever teach us how to create digital products from a responsible approach. So there’s still much to research, reflect, debate and learn.
I’m in the middle of this process and I invite you to be part of it.
